We spent the first night in the popup camper, camped in the parking lot of the New and Gauley River Adventures headquarters. We departed for two days of fishing and primitive camping on the Upper New River. On the third day, we did the white water raft trip on the Lower New River. That afternoon, we broke camp and headed for the Cranberry River area of the Monongahela National Forest for another two days and nights of camping. What a trip!
Part of our group departs for the first
of two days of the fishing on the New River.
Me with one of many smallmouth bass caught
(and released) during the fishing trip.
Keith shows off one of his smallmouth bass
catches. Our guide, Dave the Wave, is visible in the foreground,
Keith having a blast on the white water.
We approach the bridge over the New River
Gorge at the end of our wild whitewater ride.
Me, Keith and our guide, Amos, after the
white water ride. The river was running several feet above normal when
we did the Lower New River, and it was a wild ride!
Our group enjoys a well deserved steak dinner
at Outback after the rafting trip. We smelled bad and looked rough.
Here's a view of the Cranberry River. There
are campsites all along the river here that are available on a first come,
first serve basis. All the sites were in use, and we had the camp up the
mountain at the Bishop
Knob Campground. There are no hookups, but campsites are nice and big,
and it's only $4 a night!
This was our campsite at Bishop Knob.
Some nice West Virginia scenery along Interstate
64 on the way home.
